Ron Gallo has announced a new EP, Really Nice Guys, set to drop Jan. 18 to start your year off right. While we are still tallying up our best records of 2017, where his 2017 release HEAVY META is a heavy favorite. The record was announced a sweet skateboarding video for the title track, featuring Gallo himself, full of sick tricks, and, of course, the gritty punk tinged garage fueled rock jams that we have come to expect.
The new EP is largely a satirical and playful commentary on his experience in the music industry. Gallo explains, “Being constantly on highways, in vans, on planes, on stages, in green rooms, on guest lists, turning a person into a brand, turning a real life human moment into a song, into content, into an asset to be monetized, talking to people about myself and stuff I wrote 3 years ago, watching it all unfold in the public eye from a phone in a van on a highway heading to a stage.” He continues, “It wasn’t what I thought it would be and it was beautiful and I am grateful, but mostly this whole world or pursuing music and the music business is hilarious. So how do you deal with that? Have fun by entertaining yourself with an EP of you laughing at yourself about all of it and call it Really Nice Guys, which is probably all I’ve been for most of this.”
He elaborated with Noisey, who debuted the video, “The song is about bands that are better at being humans than making music. So the video, modeled after an early 2000’s skateboarding video part, is me, to the best of my ability, being bad or at very best underwhelming at skating synced to the song.” Underwhelming skills or not, it fits the new single perfectly.
No Nashville dates are on the books right now, but we’d expect a local show around the release. In the meantime, Gallo is set to spend a short run on the road in January, and is confirmed for Hangout Music Fest on the beach this spring.
