December’s just days away and with less than a month to go until Christmas, we’re finally getting swept into the holiday spirit, despite the unseasonably warm weather here in Nashville. Though live shows slow down and record releases largely grind to a halt towards the end of the year, the season of cheer inevitably always brings plenty of Christmas concerts and parties, and, of course, holiday song releases of new and classic tunes. Locals Pet Envy are the latest to try their hand at penning a new entry into the Christmastime repertoire, and we’re very excited to bring you an exclusive premiere of the track, an earnest longing to extend the feeling of holiday cheer called “Christmas Forever,” before it officially arrives on Dec. 1.
Since first springing onto the scene in 2015, Pet Envy have become an exciting addition to the Nashville scene, crafting a sound that mixes elements of indie, r&b, and pop to stunning effect. Their recent sophomore EP, Flowers for Your Brain, is among this year’s best local releases, and the momentum continues with their new holiday tune, which feels like a wonderful throwback to ’90s pop r&b classics with a modern twist. Produced by Joshua Reynolds (Little Big Town) with contributions from Grammy award-winning producer/songwriter Femke Weidema, who created the alias “BBLV Symphony” specially for their work on this tune, “Christmas Forever” will inevitably get stuck in your head and make a fresh addition to all of your holiday playlists.
In the spirit of the season of giving, Pet Envy will be partnering with Nashville based outreach organization Blood:Water to donate proceeds from the new single, benefitting grassroots African organizations for enduring health and dignity, focusing on HIV/AIDS and water crises. So hit play below, then be sure to buy a copy once it drops Friday, and help out a great cause! And finally, be sure to join us Dec. 8 at Dee’s Lounge for our 6th Annual No Country Christmas Carol Show, where Pet Envy will be among our exiting slate of local performers!
