Nashville has plenty of gifted singer-songwriters, but two of the city’s most talented transplants will take the stage to share their raw, honest and hypnotizing tunes with the masses. Folk troubadour Renn and gritty poet Shannon LaBrie are teaming up for a co-headlining show at Mercy Lounge on Thursday, Aug. 24. There are a few tickets still available here, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky reader! RENN

North Carolina native Renn began his winding musical journey in Nashville after starting at Belmont University back in 2006. There, he focused on honing his guitar skills and working his love of literature into is own songwriting. Even with praise coming from both friends and his instructors, he opted to keep music as a hobby and moved to California, starting his own ministry school. Although he sold all but one guitar to fund his cross-country move, that decision ended up igniting his passion for music once more. Later, after moving back to his home state, he began channeling the pain of a breakup into his own original material. He headed back to California to finish the project, sleeping on friends’ couches and funneling his own money into completing the work. The result was 2015’s King of California, an emotional and folk-driven record that came straight from the heart.

SHANNON LABRIE

In 2013, Shannon LaBrie first burst onto the scene with her debut LP Just Be Honest, which showcased her soulful vocals and moody, emotionally-charged brand of Americana. Earlier this year, she returned with War & Peace, an introspective and raw project that was inspired by a personal tragedy. From addiction and heartbreak to American politics, she tackles some of life’s toughest subjects with incredible grace and honesty.
