As the April 7 release of local alt-country singer-songwriter Cory Branan‘s fifth album, ADIOS, inches closer, the singer, who really let his long-running punk roots flourish on what’s described as his “death record,” has made the whole thing available to exclusively stream via Noisey.
Following folkier first single “Imogene” and recent heartland punk-leaning “Another Nightmare in America,” Branan unveiled another tune that caught our ear last week ahead of the full stream. Short and upbeat, at odds with much of the LP, “I Only Know” features backing vocals from Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace and The Loved Ones’ Dave Hause (who join Deer Tick’s Robbie Crowell and Americana singer Amanda Shires as guests on the LP), which is all the more fascinating because it’s not as overtly punk as some of Branan’s other material. What it is, though, is a fun an entrancing single, and you can hear it below!
In celebration of ADIOS, self-produced and recorded in Mississippi, Cory is set to play Exit/In on April 21, and you can still get tickets here!
