Louisville garage punks White Reaper hold the distinction of headlining what was perhaps our most memorable and most chaotic Acme showcase ever, bringing their energetic and unpredictable live show to the downtown rooftop back in 2015 (their first Music City show aside from a Grimey’s in-store), along with Daddy Issues and Jawws. They’ve been back a few times since, for performances that’ve gone a lot more smoothly, but the group’s upcoming May 12 outing at The Basement East, announced earlier this month, will definitely be their biggest Nashville show to date.
An addition to this year’s Bonnaroo lineup also signifies the band’s rising stock, and ahead of their upcoming run, White Reaper will release a new album, The World’s Best American Band, April 7 via Polyvinyl. Breaking from the fuzzy, garage influences of their last LP, 2015’s White Reaper Does It Again, with TWBAB, White Reaper reach for bigger, bolder, more anthemic and arena-primed heights. On the heels of lead single “Judy French” and title track “The World’s Best American Band,” and as the buzzy LP’s release inches closer, the group have unveiled another new track, the hard-hitting, jangly and sing-along ready jam “The Stack.”
From what we’ve heard so far, the album’s boastful name and the band’s playful confidence are definitely not misplaced; this is shaping up to be one of our favorite releases of the year! Hear White Reaper’s latest below, and snag tickets to see them at The BEast for just $10!
