Out in support of their fantastic new fifth album, Ocean by Ocean, long-running British-American indie rockers The Boxer Rebellion are set to play Nashville for the first time in over three years Nov. 10 at Mercy Lounge, alongside up and comers Hey Anna and local favorite Trenton. THE BOXER REBELLION
Formed in 2001 in London, after frontman Nathan Nicholson relocated to the U.K. from his native Maryville, TN, The Boxer Rebellion are a band who’ve spent more than a decade bubbling just below the surface of massive, breakout success. With a sweeping, cinematic, post-rock and indie sound, the group channel elements of early Radiohead, The National, Elbow, and The Verve, finding their own voice and drawing critical praise throughout five full-length albums. Aside from a short-lived record deal which helped them find some initial exposure, the band have remained largely unsigned and independent since their earliest days, first finding breakout critical praise with their 2009 sophomore effort, Union. In the ensuing years, the group managed to share the stage with some big name acts, and became a favorite for film and television placements (whether or not you think you’ve heard their music, you almost definitely have). Always well-liked critically, and with a passionate, organic fanbase, The Boxer Rebellion have, at times, been an “it” band at at others, more obscure, but their enduring 15 year run has been fueled by a palpable love for the art they’ve crafted, and has honed their live show to be top-notch, hypnotic, and engaging. With their latest, this year’s Ocean by Ocean, the group have crafted some of the best, most personal material of their career, and it’s sure to be an amazing treat to witness live.

Self-described as “Blondie meets Beach House via Pet Sounds,” Hey Anna hail from Brooklyn and New Jersey, and are fronted by sisters Erin, Anna, and Katie Rauch-Sass
TRENTON
A veteran of our Acme showcase series, Florida transplant Trenton, the live moniker of gifted performer and songwriter Ryan Courtney, ambitiously takes cues from acts like Radiohead and Sunny Day Real Estate. With three strong releases to his name, the latest, last year’s Ghost Runner EP helmed by Grammy award wining producer Joshua D Niles, Trenton’s moody, ambient, alt pop style lends itself perfectly to crossover appeal, and has already found its way into high-profile television placement. Combining earnest lyrics with synthy, cinematic arrangements, Trenton has managed to both find a prominent place in Nashville pop landscape, and firmly stake out a sound and direction all his own. Perhaps one of Music City’s best-kept secrets, Trenton won’t stay secret for long.
