Roots Of A Rebellion-2016-620

As we roll into Halloween weekend, it’s time to start looking ahead to November, and, with this in mind, it’s never too early to give thanks. That’s exactly what local reggae collective Roots of a Rebellion are trying to do on Nov. 4 at 12th and Porter. So be there, to celebrate life, community, and music at the 2nd Annual Give Thanks Fest also featuring TreeHouse, along with Cosmic Shift, and the Jah Judgement Sound System (courtesy of local label Dub Cellar Records) jamming on the turn tables in-between sets. All of this awesome is presented by Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, and non-perishable food items will be accepted at the show. Canned goods or monetary donations will receive raffle tickets for an assortment of prizes including a $50 Project 615 gift card, one free Vida-Flo Nashville treatment, gift cards to Harp & Fiddle Nashville, Nashville Predators tickets, band merch, and more!

Tickets are currently available for just $12-$15, but if you’re feeling lucky, we have you also have a chance to win a pair of tickets after the jump. While you’re entering the contest, learn a little bit more about the bands performing, and whether you win or not, please bring some canned goods to donate. We hope to see you there, helping to spread peace and love!

ROOTS OF A REBELLION

Music City residents we’ve been hip to for a while now, Roots of a Rebellion appear to be picking up more and more moment as they continue to charge head first into the tail end of 2016. Over the course of several years, the soulful reggae dub rock outfit have built a strong following all over the southeast, adding fans to their flock with their high energy live shows and message of unity. The people of Nashville also made it clear what we think of the local boys too, voting them Best Local Band in the Nashville Scene’s 2015 readers poll, which adds credence to the growing Tennessee reggae movement. Anyone who follows this blog regularly also knows the group won this year’s Road to Roo competition, and of course we caught their set on The Farm this past summer, but they also dropped a new record recently. Entitled A Brother’s Instinct, the LP scratches all of our reggae rock itches, hitting just the right spots. So see for yourself what’s got everyone talking, and enjoy this beloved local band that’s already shared the stage with the likes of The Wailers, Slightly Stoopid, and SOJA, just to name a few. Help be part of their growing fanbase, and catch the vibes!

TREEHOUSE

Formed around 2010 in Myrtle Beach, SC, TreeHouse combine all the greatest aspects of reggae and beach rock into one cohesive, fluid auditory experience. Heavy into the fest scene and the reggae community at large, TH have been friends of ROAR for a while, and they have shared bills together before (including last years inaugural Give Thanks Fest). The two bands are coming from similar places, hoping to spread the peace, love, positivity of the music they play. With their latest studio offering, 2015’s Lifted, and a live record which dropped this past September, the band are ready to bless all in attendance with this wonderful music and energy packed live show.

COSMIC SHIFT

Formed just over two years ago, Cosmic Shift are a jam leaning band from right here in Music City. Thank space funk meets psych pop, and of course the jam is what holds it all together, as they touch on other genres too numerous to mention. Building on a killer live performance reputation, the band hope to gain some new fans, as they kick off the night of giving thanks and rocking out. Don’t sleep on this killer opener, and be there in person to see them blast off with their improvisational style.
