Returning to town just months after selling out Exit/In, for their first Music City show since the summer release of their fantastic fifth album Ash & Ice, The Kills, who at least partially claim Nashville as their home these days, will be back in town next month, Sept. 14 for a performance at Marathon Music Works with Kim and the Created. One of our favorite live bands around, The Kills roared back to life after a few years of stagnation to craft perhaps their best album yet, and there’s never been a better time to witness their unparalleled rock and roll energy in person. You can still grab tickets right here while they last, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more about the show and enter below!

THE KILLS

Made up of vocalist Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince, indie duo The Kills have achieved something of near-legendary status throughout their 15 year run. Since their inception, a chance meeting in Jamie’s native England while both still part of prior projects, the group have gone through a number of phases, flirting with Velvet Underground-esque art rock, garage rock in the vein of The White Stripes, gothic earnestness, conceptual commercial accessibility throttled through their minimalist base, and, in recent years, more concise and beat driven song structure. After a five-year absence, during which they occasionally reemerged to perform live (Mosshart has also been busy with her other band, The Dead Weather), the duo finally returned earlier this year with a fifth album, Ash & Ice, their first since 2011’s Blood Pressures. Continuing the electro-laced, beat-driven, riff-centric sound of their prior LP, The Kills’ triumphant return distills everything we love about the band, serving as something of a culmination of what’s come before, while pushing the duo forward into a new era. They’re electrifying live performers, and, though at least partially based here, the The Kills’ Music City shows have been somewhat sporadic until recently. They’re one of the best bands around, and one best experienced live; catch ’em now before they retreat to other projects.

KIM AND THE CREATED

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Kim and the Created also supported The Kills when they sold out Exit/In earlier this spring. Based in Los Angeles, the project is helmed by Kim House, who began crafting lo-fi demos a few years back, soon transitioning into frenetic, flamboyant, punk-infused live performances, and quickly finding Kim an audience on the road. Fleshed out by a skilled backing band, House takes on a heavier, more aggressive and conventionally punk sound than The Kills, but still compliments their uncontainable energy and and unparalleled live style. You definitely don’t want to be late for this one.
