As we told you last fall, seminal, best-selling, award winning Texas alt/country pop trio the Dixie Chicks, whose traditionalist meets contemporary pop sensibilities made them a breakout commercial success in the ’90s, and whose subversive, outspoken attitude put them at odds with the conservative views of mainstream country industry in the ’00s, are set to play Nashville for the first time in a decade tonight, Aug. 17 at Bridgestone Arena! It’s been two years since the group last released an album, following which they decided to take some time off, time which turned into a number of years of intermittent activity and little in the way of new music. Over the past few years, however, the trio have become increasingly more active, and, after teasing big plans last fall, announced a full world tour. Tonight’s stop also features site favorite Vintage Trouble, as well as local duo Smooth Hound Smith (how cool is that?), and promises plenty of nostalgia, famed covers, and, who knows, maybe even some new tunes. Tickets unsurprisingly sold fast, but if you didn’t manage to get one, you can still find resale options here or here.
