Not going to make it to Forecastle this weekend? No worries, you have a chance to catch one of our most anticipated acts right here in town. Steve Gunn & The Outliners bring their dreamy psychedelic sound back to Music City tonight along with fuzzed out psych rocker Spacin’ and experimental one-man show ORNAMENT. The show at Exit/In gets started at 9 p.m., and tickets are still available for $15. Head below to read more about lineup, and head out tonight for a perfect night of fuzzy guitar driven mastery.
STEVE GUNN & THE OUTLINERS
We last checked in with Steve Gunn and his band of merry bandsters during their dreamy set at Bonnaroo, but we pretty much jump at any chance to catch these guys live. Gunn is out touring in support of his LP Eyes On The Lines, which dropped in early June on Matador, and it is another perfect example of his guitar driven rollicks through psychedelic laced rock that harkens back to the early days of that sub-genre. He has garnered the respect of fellow guitarists across the country, and the new record has garnered the same with even the snobbiest of music critics. Given his growing appeal at festival and bookings at larger venues across the country, it appears that he is finally starting to receive some well deserved recognition.
SPACIN’
Fuzzed out psychedelic rockers Spacin’ “tagged” their January 2016 release, Total Freedom, with the terms “rock, jam, party, psychedelic, and pulled pork sandwich.” While we could probably show them a thing or two about just how delicious pulled pork sandwich operations out of a gas station can be around these parts, their brand of psychedelic will provide the perfect bridge to connect the experimental drones of the opener with the almost pop leaning (for this show) sound of Gunn. Head below to get a taste of the “tagged” album.
ORNAMENT
Joe DeNardo may be best known for his guitar work in ambient noise outfit Growing, but he has started a solo project of late known as ORNAMENT. Similarly to Growing, ORNAMENT features experimental guitar based music, but it takes that to the next level as a solo act, performing magic on effect pedals while creating a wall of sound designed to challenge the listener while pummeling them into oblivion. This is definitely one of the most interesting performances you will see in Music City tonight.
Steve Gunn & The Outliners, Spacin’, and ORNAMENT perform on Thursday July 14 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m., and tickets are available for $15.
