Returning to The Basement East for the second time this year, nostalgic, theatrical, and unique singer Diane Coffee will be back in Music City later this month, June 26, along with Nashville’s own Lasso Spells. Known for drumming in Foxygen, as well as for a child acting career, Coffee, real name Shaun Fleming, is quickly becoming a buzzworthy artist to watch, largely thanks to his fantastic sophomore effort, Everybody’s a Good Dog, released last year. Tickets to the upcoming show are still available right here, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fun! Read on to find out all about the show and enter below!

DIANE COFFEE

The musical moniker of Shaun Fleming, known for his work as a Disney child voice actor, and for playing drums in Foxygen (a role he still juggles to this day), Diane Coffee began as an unfiltered, solo method of expression, culminating from a lifetime of musical passion. The project began very organically and lo-fi, when Shaun moved from his native Southern California to New York, and recorded his Diane Coffee debut, My Friend Fish, in 2013 with limited and makeshift means. Nonetheless, the charmingly retro, theatrical, and experimental tunes began to build buzz, and enabled the singer to put a band together and hit the road, finding an early taste of DIY success. After making a guest appearance on Run the Jewels’ smash sophomore LP, Fleming moved from New York to the decidedly smaller Bloomington, Indiana on a whim, inspiring the writing process for his second full-length, last year’s Everybody’s a Good Dog. Employing more conventional production, horns, strings, and guest musicians, the LP sounds like a more fully realized shade of Diane Coffee, taking cues from Bowie, The New York Dolls, T. Rex, and Meatloaf, mixing showmanship and flamboyance with classic rock bite, all the while funneled through a contemporary sensibility. One of the coolest under the radar projects around, Diane Coffee is just as fun and engaging live as he is in recording, so don’t miss a chance to see him in action!

LASSO SPELLS

The brainchild of former Ranch Ghost member Brett Dudash, Lasso Spells boast an impressive groove-laden, psychedelic, western-tinged, moody, and vibey retro rock sound, expanded to include a full band lineup last year, and have impressed us each and every time we’ve seen them in action. We’re still waiting on the group’s debut album, Stuck in a Shape to arrive sometime this year, but we’re sure when it does finally drop it’ll be worth the wait, as every early track so far has been stellar. Show up early and see what all the hype is about!
