Floralorix-620

If you are a regular reader, than you know we are all about supporting the budding Tennessee reggae scene, and in that spirit, we are super excited to announce Music City reggae rockers Floralorix will be releasing their debut album, Boombox, today, May 6! We got an advanced listen of the finished product, and we assure you it is one of the best local LPs we’ve heard all year. To help launch the new tunes, the group hosting a special album release show tonight at Exit/In, with help from all local supporting acts Mocha, Niles Rooker Trio, and Jahimsa. Tickets are available for $5-$10, and the music starts at 8:30 p.m., but if you want to get a proper pre-game in, join the band for an extra special listening party at Hurry Back (just around the corner from Exit/In), sponsored by Tennessee Brew Works, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Read on for more info on the bands, and be there for all the festivities tonight, when we all celebrate the growing local scene!

FLORALORIX

An important player in the aforementioned local reggae scene, Floralorix formed from the ashes of two other local bands, and after building a reputation around town for a killer live show, they’ve put the final touches on their debut record, Bloombox. The No Country Presents alumni have been picking up steam leading up to the release, also earning a spot opening for 311 in July. Released independently, the album personifies the upbeat, feel good vibes that dwell within the spirit of reggae music, no matter where you live. More positive vibrations is exactly what the world needs if you ask us, so come see for yourself that reggae lives everywhere, not just in Jamaica.

MOCHA

Neo-soul mixed with funky ass R&B, Mocha are a local band guaranteed to get your feet moving. At times boasting an eight person lineup, these guys bring big sound and big fun to any performance they rock. Back on the scene after brief hiatus, we look forward to seeing what they’ve been up too for the last several months, and if you know their music, you probably are too. Catch Mocha’s whole set tonight, but be sure to bring your dancing shoes.

NILES ROOKER TRIO

Helping to keep this lineup diverse, Niles Rooker Trio are a blues rock band from Music City that you should probably keep an eye on. We’ve yet to see them live, but based on what they’ve released online so far, we think they are going to translate to the stage beautifully. Be at the venue on time, so you can see what they’re all about for yourself.

JAHIMSA

Roots reggae rock five-piece Jahimsa will be kicking off the massive night of tunes with a short, but sweet set that we think you 100% need in your life. At not even a year old, the band doesn’t have a whole lot of music out there yet, but if they follow in the footsteps of Floralorix and Roots of a Rebellion, they’ll soon be the newest players in the local reggae scene.

Floralorix, Mocha, Niles Rooker Trio and Jahimsa perform tonight, May 6 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 8:30 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $5-$10.
