With the year that Chris Stapleton has seen, there really shouldn’t be anything left to surprise us. After sweeping the CMAs, nabbing multiple Grammys, and watching last year’s Traveller climb to #1, the breakout local outlaw country singer Chris Stapleton is enjoying a wave of well-deserved newfound attention, which should continue to grow with sets this year at Coachella and Bonnaroo, amidst his summer on the road.
Stapleton has no qualms covering other artists during his live set, and often uses the opportunity to showcase his amazing range and vocal prowess, but he really pulled off something special while performing at The Greek Theater in Berkeley, California in tribute to the late Prince. He dropped a goose bump inducing cover of the purple one’s song “Nothing Compare 2 U,“ which turned Sinead O’Connor into an international superstar in the early 1990s. Check out the surprisingly good video below, and just imagine how awesome Chris is going to be at Bonnaroo this year.
