Finally, the moment of truth is at hand friends, Road To Roo comes to a close tonight at Mercy Lounge, and one coveted spot to perform at Bonnaroo 2016 will be filled. Over the past few weeks there have been battle of the bands style events all over town, with winners being chosen via a combination of fan and judge voting. Roots of a Rebellion were crowned the Nashville winner, and they’ll be going toe-to-toe with the Knoxville winner, Josiah & The Greater Good. Music for this FREE show starts at 8 pm, but unfortunately there’s only room for one group at Roo. However, the good news is you can help decide who gets to go, so get informed about the line-up after the jump. Hope to see you there!
JOSIAH & THE GREATER GOOD
Knoxville based five member blues/rock reggae-tinged ensemble Josiah & The Greater Good has been building a reputation around the University of Tennessee and throughout the Volunteer state with their high energy live shows. Never afraid to slide into pure free-form jam either, Josiah and his homies have also been working hard in the studio with Grammy-nominated producer Travis Wyrick to release a follow-up to their most recent EP, Scoundrel … but for now they’ll settle on upsetting the home town heroes, ROAR, in front of a sure to be mostly local crowd at Mercy, in hopes of catapulting them into a time-slot on The Farm.
ROOTS OF A REBELLION
A cornerstone of the ever growing Tennessee reggae movement, Roots of a Rebellion have been at it for a while now, and we must say we’ve enjoyed watching them grow and improve as they hone their island influenced sounds. ROAR were voted best local band in the Nashville Scene Readers’ Poll 2015, so it’s safe to say the word is getting out about this talented troupe. Having toured the country in the warm-up spot for other slightly more high profile bands like Rebelution, NEEDTOBREATHE, Slightly Stoopid, moe., Trombone Shorty, North Mississippi Allstars, and The Wailers certainly helps too. These dudes are definitely Roo ready.
Roots of a Rebellion and Josiah & The Greater Good will perform tonight, April 4 at Mercy Lounge. The show is 21+, music begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7:00 p.m.), and it’s totally FREE!
