DARLINGSIDE
An eclectic cast of characters, Darlingside’s sound seamlessly blends ’60s folk, classical arrangements, wonderful harmonies, and a modern indie-rock sensibility. The four member ensemble are all vocalists, as well multi-instrumentalists, choosing to construct every piece of music they produce collaboratively; none of them is the primary songwriter or arranger. Rather, they prefer to pool their ideas during writing sessions, so that each song features four different writing voices. The final product combines the collective experience of the four songwriters, nodding to the music of a couple generations ago, while establishing a sound that is still all their own. Their sophomore release, Birds Say, which dropped back in September, has earned them praise from American Songwriter and NPR Music, but you can decide for yourself if they’re up to snuff when you see them live tonight.
MOLLY PARDEN
Originally hailing from Jonesboro, GA, Molly Parden now calls Nashville home. Her mix of country, folk, and pop music, fleshed out with easy-going acoustic guitar playing and a sweet southern voice, is just the type of thing we welcome here in Music City. You can go ahead and save all your Dolly Parton jokes though (since their names have a similar sound and cadence), Parden has heard them all before. Besides, she’s nothing like Dolly, so hold the plastic veneer. Molly is much more bare bones, salt-of-the-earth indie. See her do her thing for yourself, but only if you get to the show on time.
Darlingside, and Molly Parden will perform Thursday Dec. 10 at The High Watt. The show is 18 +, begins at 8 (doors at 7 pm), and tickets are available for $10.
