Prepping to release what is, without a doubt, one of the most-anticipated records of the year, Canadian experimental pop singer Grimes just recently revealed their her long-awaited fourth album is finally on the way, and her fall tour, which we already told you stops at Marathon Music Works on Nov. 10 with Nicole Dollanganger has now become an even more exciting event to look forward to. It’s been over three years since we last saw the enchanting performer live, so her Nashville return is sure to be one of the year’s best, to say the least. You can still grab tickets here while the last, and you can also enter for a chance to win a pair below! Read on for details!
GRIMES
It’s been nearly four years now since Canadian experimental/electro pop singer Grimes amassed global attention and critical praise for her breakout third full-length, Visions, one of our unequivocal favorite releases of 2012. It’s also been just over three years since the beloved singer played her last (and, so far, only) outing in Music City. Needless to say, we’re seriously craving our Grimes fix. After several years of teases and false starts, Grimes’ fourth album is nearing its release; announced this week, it’ll be called Art Angels, and should drop before the year’s end. That’s literally all we know for now, but a first single and more info are expected to arrive soon. Born Claire Boucher, Grimes is a producer, visual artist, and video director in addition to being an accomplished musician. From 2010 to 2012, she had a prolific early run, blowing up the blogosphere with her electronic laced, eclectic, DIY sound, combining elements of pop, r&b, electronica, hip hop, and experimental music, landing on a unique, refreshing, smart, and immersive sound. Straddling the line between indie and mainstream, Grimes has allowed her broader, more accessible influences to reign free in recent years, with her one and only single of 2014, “Go,” originally written for Rihanna (and her more recent “Entropy” a collab with unabashedly poppy act Bleachers). Grimes is one of the most gifted artists of our generation, and her dense, etherial, dreamy, dark, and immersive aesthetic and live show are unparalleled. Her new album is easily one of the year’s most anticipated, and we’ll be counting down the days until her return to Nashville.
NICOLE DOLLANGANGER
Nicole Dollanganger is something of Grimes’ new protege. Not only is she serving as direct support for this tour, but the fellow Canadian singer’s new effort, Natural Born Losers, which dropped earlier this month, serves as the first release on Grimes’ new label-esque (or anti-label, if you will) artist co-op Eerie Organization. Need some extra incentive to check it out? Here’s what Grimes had to say about the co-op and Nicole’s LP: “It blew up my brain so hard that I literally started Eerie to fucking put it out because it’s a crime against humanity for this music not to be heard.” Not a bad endorsement, right? Dark, electronic, haunting, and dreamy, Dollanganger’s comparatively sparse sound should wholeheartedly delight Grimes fans. Show up early.
