Americana singer and songwriting genius Patty Griffin returns to The Ryman tonight, Oct. 14 and, amazingly, there are still tickets available. She will be supported by up and coming folk outfit Darlingside. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available from $35 – $50. Read on, if, for some reason, you still need convincing.
PATTY GRIFFIN
Patty Griffin continues to tour in support of her latest album, Servant Of Love, which dropped via Thirty Tigers on Sept. 23. The new record sees the talented songstress veer in the vernacular of folk tales, blues cants, and jazz gestures, while still weaving her poetic lyrics through the heart and soul of everyday life. The songs touch on modern politics, personal struggles, greed, obsessions, and passions, and pull you down into the darkness before carrying you back into the light. Of course, you will also be hearing a lot of the new record tonight, but you can also expect a HUGE helping of Griffin’s stand out catalogue, and we wouldn’t be surprised if she invited up a few surprise guests as well. We last had a chance to see Patty during Americana Fest, but that was a late night set where few had much gas left in the tank. So, it’ll be nice to have an intimate evening with her tonight in the comfortable confines of the Mother Church.
DARLINGSIDE
Massachusetts based folk quartet Darlingside open things up, as they are touring in support of their recently released (also via Thirty Tigers), Birds Say. Their unique blend of early folk with indie rock sensibilities coupled with soaring harmonies and a clever wit make this exciting outfit one to keep your eye on. Check out the live performance of “Go Back” from Birds Say below.
Patty Griffin and Darlingside perform tonight, Oct. 14 at The Ryman Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are still available for $35-$50.
