It’s hard to believe that it’s already the first week of September. Not only does it mean we’ll hopefully get rid of this muggy ass weather, but fall is one of the best (if not the best) times of the year for new music and shows. To help kick the season off, The High Watt has a great lineup of local bands that are gathering TONIGHT, Sept. 5 to celebrate Lovedrug’s newest album Notions, which came out yesterday, so with the help of Brave Town, Fast Astronaut and Chapels, it’s sure to be a good time. Read on for more info on the bands and snag your tickets for only $10.
LOVEDRUG
The five-piece rock outfit Lovedrug got their start in Ohio in 2004 when they released their debut Pretend You’re Alive, a dark, guitar and piano-driven art rock project that quickly gained attention that landed them tours with everyone from Coheed and Cambria to The Killers. Over the past few years, their sound has grown towards a more adult contemporary, anthemic rock, but remains just indie enough for those who grew to love them for oldies like “Black Out” and “Spiders”. They’re back after a short hiatus with a new residence here in Nashville and new album called Notions, which was just released yesterday, so check out the video for “Spinning Out Of Control” and get ready to party tonight in celebration of its release.
BRAVE TOWN
Nashville’s Brave Town have an energetic, pop rock sound best compared to Cold War Kids; with funky piano melodies and powerful vocals, they’re sure to help get things started tonight. “Things Ain’t Right,” which you can listen to below, is the only taste we’ve gotten of the new band, but their website says new music is coming this fall, so be on the lookout for it.
FAST ASTRONAUT
Fast Astronaut‘s story started here in Nashville with the release of their EP Invisible Sun, and they have since been touring in support while working on new music. With screeching guitars and a vocal style sometimes similar to spoken word, they’re putting a modern twist on a classic, as shown here in their song “Balance.”
CHAPELS
Local five piece rock band Chapels just released their debut EP Waves a few months ago, and have already been getting some love from Lightning 100 on the 615. Their sound, while rooted in indie rock, has a little bit of a country twang to it in the guitar style, which you can hear in the opening of “Strangers” below.
Lovedrug, Brave Town, Fast Astronaut and Chapels will perform tonight, Sept. 5 at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $10.
