Leading up to the Oct. 9 release of his fifth album, If I Should Go Before You, City and Colour has unveiled another new track, “Lover Come Back,” following lead single “Woman” and followup “Wasted Love.” Recorded in Nashville at Blackbird Studios and produced by Dallas Green, the singer/songwriter behind City and Colour himself, the forthcoming LP marks the first time Green has opted to feature his longtime touring band in the studio; a natural progression given his drift towards a more layered, complex sound in recent years. Given the strength of these new tracks, it’s safe to assume If I Should Go will channel the same emotional earnestness, folky, alt-country, and blues informed alt rock sensibilities, and dynamic and melodic range we’ve come to expect from City and Colour, and could just be his best release yet.
As previously announced, the singer will return to Nashville on Dec. 13 for a performance at War Memorial Auditorium with Bahamas, his first local show since kicking off last season’s Live on the Green almost exactly a year ago.
