Caleb Hawley

In a stark contrast to the very serious, mumbly Americana music that so often comes out of Nashville, the last few years here have seen a serious growth in the soul scene. Both touring and local soul acts have experienced a great deal of success here recently, which is why we already know that tonight’s (Oct. 9) show at The High Watt will be a rousing success. Featuring Caleb Hawley, this upbeat and swinging night will start at 9 pm (doors at 8), and promises to be a fantastic time. Opening for Hawley is Nashville’s own Oliver and the Spectacles; all in all, this seems like a fantastic show, and with tickets only costing $12, you’ll have plenty of money left over for drinks. Need more convincing? We’ve got details on each of these two phenomenal acts after the jump, so stick with us.

CALEB HAWLEY

In today’s society, we like to imagine the output of musicians and artists as the culmination of a lifetime of work. However, like so many of our time’s greatest artists, Caleb Hawley‘s path to music was not direct. Although he grew up singing in a church choir, the songwriter spent much of his 20s playing acoustic folk gigs across the country. His musical output has changed since then, but the on-stage experience and songwriting accolades have stuck with Hawley. Today, the musician tours with a band and plays upbeat “rock n’ soul”, and has multiple releases in this new style. Both Hawley and his band demonstrate expertise throughout their engaging and dynamic live show, and it would be a shame to miss this act this evening.

OLIVER AND THE SPECTACLES

Much in the same vein of Caleb Hawley’s current work, local act Oliver and the Spectacles delves into the vocal dominated, horn supported sounds of soul and classic rock. The group look the part as well, often dressing in suits with skinny ties. Basically, this act could be summed up by one word: timeless. Their easygoing, catchy tunes will appeal to listeners of all ages and backgrounds, which explains the success the band has experienced since the release of their single “Hit the Ground Running.” Oh, yeah, it’s worth mentioning that the group have a signature dance move, The Spectacle Shake, and, if you’re going to the show tonight, you’ll be expected to participate (trust us, it’ll be fun).

Caleb Hawley and Oliver and the Spectacles will perform tonight, Oct. 9, at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at 9 pm (doors at 8 pm), and tickets are available for $12.
