JMascis-620

Fresh off the release of his sophomore solo LP, Tied to a Star, J Mascis, best known for fronting influential rock group Dinosaur Jr, makes his return to Nashville tonight at Exit/In for the first time in a decade. One of indie rock’s most celebrated and influential performers, getting a chance to catch J solo is extra special, since it’s a much less frequent occurrence. Sub Pop lablemates Luluc are set to support, tickets are still available here, and we have more info after the jump!

J MASCIS

Save for an eight year hiatus, the band J Mascis is most associated and has been most active with for the past three decades is Dinosuar Jr. The famed frontman’s output has extended far beyond that band, however, with side projects like J Mascis + The Fog and Witch, among others, and countless collaborations with other artists. His latest release is not a far shot stylistically from Dinosaur Jr, though more stripped down, acoustic-tinged, and introspective. While we expect Mascis to perform mostly solo material this evening, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him dust some classics off from his impressive back catalogue.

LULUC

Hailing from Australia, indie folk duo Luluc are riding high on the release of their sophomore album, Passerby, which was co-produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner. A perfect compliment to the softer side of J Mascis’ solo material, they’re an emerging artist that should absolutely be on your radar, and one compelling reason to arrive early.

J Masics and Luluc will perform tonight, Oct. 1, at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $18.
