Much to the surprise of fans (including ourselves), Canadian dance punk duo Death from Above 1979 announced earlier this year that a followup to their beloved 2004 debut, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, would finally arrive this fall, a decade later. Dubbed The Physical World and due out Sept. 9, the sophomore LP comes a few years after the group began testing the waters with intermittent reunion shows, and will see the band’s return to Nashville this fall, Nov. 4 at Marathon Music Works, for their first Music City date in nearly a decade.
We already got a taste of The Physical World in form of dancey debut single, “Trainwreck 1979,” but it’s DFA1979’s latest release, “Government Trash,” which has us cautiously optimistic that the duo haven’t lost their heavier edge. Laden with lo-fi drums, metal-esque riffs, grungy vocals, and unstoppable momentum, “Government Trash” is the comeback song we were waiting for, an one hell of an extra reason to catch the band live this fall. Grab tickets here, and give the single a spin below.
