CardboardKids-620

If you like to bob and pogo a bit while listening to upbeat music, The High Watt is basically turning into a bounce castle tonight. Alt-rock band Cardboard Kids are celebrating their new album release for Echo Boomer. They’re bringing along plenty of melodically talented friends, including Golden Youth, Lenachka, and Poema. This one has the support of Cause a Scene, so it’s bound to bring good vibes for everyone.

The party gets started at 8PM, and two ticket options are available: $5 for entry or $10 to get in with the fresh new CD. Continue reading for more on Cardboards Kids and the rest of the lineup!

CARDBOARD KIDS

Jake Germany, Austin Cunningham, and Brandon McFarlin grew up together in the backwoods of Tyler, Texas before moving to Nashville and forming Cardboard Kids in 2013. They linked up with Ben Folds collaborator Joe Costa to record and mix their debut full length at Sound Shelter Studios. Upon our first listen, Echo Boomer is an exciting ride of ’90s alternative rock on a road of gritty blues. Keep an ear out for Ruby Amanfu’s killer contribution to lead single “Dime A Time Lover” below.

GOLDEN YOUTH

Golden Youth don’t sound their size; the duo uses vast instrumentation to build big, organic soundscapes. Stephanie Lauren and Kyle Monroe wield their talents like an orchestra, with a flurry of flutes, vibraphones, vocals, and percussion elements. We’re interested to see how they pull of this Jonsi-esque track, “We Are Alive,” on stage.

LENACHKA

We get plenty of transplants here, but Lenachka has one of the more interesting “Path to Nashville” stories. Born in Germany to a Russian family, Lenachka immigrated to California at the age of 8. She’s been in Nashville via LA since 2013, creating buzz with intimate living room sets and secret club shows. But alas, just as soon as we’re getting used to seeing Lenachka around, word is she’s moving back to LA for a while. Catch her while you can tonight!

POEMA

Sister act Poema will kick the night off with a acoustic-pop set. Their last record, 2012’s Remembering You, is full of sweetness and refinement. These classy ladies also lend their vocals to Cardboard Kids’ new release.

Cardboard Kids, Golden Youth, Lenachka, and Poema will perform TONIGHT, May 23, at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at at 8PM (doors at 7PM), and tickets are available for tickets are available for $5 (or $10 for a CD+show bundle).
