Bobby Bare Jr

We are very excited to announce Bobby Bare, Jr’s album release show at Mercy Lounge this Saturday, May 3rd. He will be performing with a number of special guests, including (his father and Country Music Hall of Famer) Bobby Bare Sr., Cory Branan, Birdcloud, and more.

The initial response to the album, Undefeated, released just last month, has been overwhelmingly positive, and we can see why. Upon our initial listen, it pulled us right in. Read on below for our review of the album and some more news on Bobby.

The first thing we noticed when checking out Undefeated was that this was a rock album with outstanding production. The dynamics, the musicality, the songwriting, the grooves, and the sheer variety of sounds they get on this record are impressive. It was no surprise to discover they had pulled in Grammy-winning engineer Vance Powell to rein in the substantial collection of instruments and musicians. We’ve seen the album described as Americana rock, but even as broad of a term as that is, it is still too limiting. There are certainly songs on the album that could be classified as such. But there are also songs like “Blame Everybody (But Yourself)” with piano, organ, horns, a playful-sounding verse, and a very contemporary-sounding chorus that would fit right in on Lightning 100. And there is something very Dark Side of the Moon to the tune “Don’t Want to Know.”

In addition to the new album, William Miller and Reelhouse created a documentary about Bobby entitled “Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost).” The film is available on DVD and on some digital streaming services and is definitely worth checking out.

Bobby Bare, Jr. will perform May 3, 2014 at Mercy Lounge. The show is 18+, begins at 9 (doors at 8), and tickets are available for [$10].
