FRIDAY
GABE DIXON
@ 3rd and Linsdley | 9:30pm (doors at 9pm)| $10 | All Ages
A good way to end Thanksgiving (or avoid Black Friday) would be to head down to 3rd and Linsdley to catch Gabe Dixon. The piano-driven soft rock feel is close to that of Elton John or a more serious tone of Ben Folds. Dixon traveled and worked with The Gabe Dixon Band for almost ten years and had recently decided to end their run while in good spirits. In the mists of having his first child, he kept getting song ideas and couldn’t help but to use the whims as song inspiration for his newest album One Spark. His voice and songwriting, along with a piano, is nothing short of amazing. [SM]

Whether you want to spend the night with your kinfolk or just get away from them for a few hours, it’s a family affair for Bobby Bare Sr. & Jr. and honestly what show could be better for a Thanksgiving weekend!? The father was a fairly successful country singer in the 60s and 70s recording with RCA, Mercury and Columbia records. The son was born and raised in Nashville and in a town FULL of singer-song writers he is THE BEST we’ve seen or at the very least part of a short list. Check out their Americana style, country music with a rock ’n’ roll flair. It’s FREE so don’t feel obligated to curb your Black Friday Sale spending. [JR]

PROMISED LAND SOUND W/ D. WATUSI AND JP1
@ The High Watt | 9pm | $8 | 18+
Country-soul rock and roll trio Promised Land Sound will play at The High Watt this Saturday with fellow psych-garage outfit D. Watusi and JP1 (with PLS backing Joey Plunkett on a couple tunes). Since releasing their self-titled, full-length debut in late September, Promised Land Sound has been named the best new local band by the Scene, but don’t be fooled: despite their youthful appearance, their history goes way back…not only in Nashville and their respective musicianship, but in sound—all the way back to the beginning of rock and roll as we know it. Doors at 8 p.m., and if you RSVP to the event on Facebook it’s only $5, otherwise it’s $8. [SS]
THE KINGSTON SPRINGS W/ RICHIE & FAUX FEROCIOUS
@ 12th & Porter | 9pm | $5 | 18+
The first time we heard the single “Weight of This World” off their self-titled debut album, we knew the Kingston Springs were a big fucking deal. Not since Kings of Leon have we heard such polish, style and voice on a first record. Like rockers from a by-gone generation, these guys’ sound feels like it was born in the wrong decade. But thats’ a good thing for people who want REAL rock ’n’ Roll without any country twang or pop glitz. The Springs are making it known they are bucking trends in the Nashville rock scene. See for yourself below and get to the show early for local wildman Richie with his band and Knoxville’s own Faux Ferocious . [JR]
NETHERFRIENDS W/ METH DAD AND THE SILVER PALMS
@ Exit/In | 9pm | $8ADV/$10DOS | 18+
Chicago-based Shawn Rosenblatt, otherwise known as Netherfriends, continues his musical prophecy with a stop at Exit/In with Meth Dad and The Silver Palms. With over a dozen albums under his belt, and the critically-acclaimed 50 Songs 50 States, Netherfriends has transcended into much more than shoegazing indie rock, especially now that Rosenblatt is a one-man show. These days, he’s experimenting with beats, loops, and Chicago freestyle, like on September’s Kind of Buzzed and his newest loop-driven creation currently in the works, P3ACE. Doors at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 (ADV), $10 (DOS) and can be purchased on the Exit/In website. [SS]
PATRICK SWEANY W/ DEREK HOKE AND JIM OBLON
@ The Basement | 9pm | $5 | 21+
Ohio native Patrick Sweany may have single-handedly changed the face of modern blues music. Sweany’s unique style is invocative and exciting, and you better believe he knows how to throw down live. His tunes, such as the one listed below, practically force listeners to start a subtle head bob. You can catch Sweany this Saturday at the Basement with friends Derek Hoke and Jim Oblon. [JS]
SUNDAY
JOHNNYSWIM W/ MICHAEL LOGEN
@ 3rd & Linsdley | 8pm (doors at 6pm) | $12 | All Ages

This indie pop duo are locals and have been known to put on a hell of a good show. Opening from Johnnyswim is Michael Logen. [JS]
CHVRCHES W/ WET

Scottish synthpop newcomers CHVRCHES (pronounced “churches”) are one of the hottest bands in the scene. So hot, in fact, that their performance at Exit/In sold out awhile back. If you weren’t lucky enough to snag tickets this time around, and you haven’t yet checked out their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, do yourself a favor and give it a spin this weekend! [PO]
