Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes joined My Morning Jacket, Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, the Antibalas horns, and The Roots to perform last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The supergroup played “Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am,” a Fela Kuti cover which Howard, MMJ, and Garbus also recently contributed to Red Hot + Fela, a benefit compilation album for AIDs treatment and awareness, available now via Knitting Factory Records.
This is hardly the first time Howard and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James have come together for a musical collaboration. As you may recall, both artists took part in a Superjam this summer at Bonnaroo. After the jump, check out their epic seven-minute Fallon performance.
