You’ve probably seen the posters around town flaunting the fact that Black Flag around going to be at this year’s Muddy Roots Music Festival near Cookeville, TN over Labor Day Weekend.  We saw the posters, and it got us looking into this pretty insane little festival.  It’s hard to put a genre on something like Muddy Roots.  There’s a little bit of everything in there. The genre spanning and eclectic lineup includes bands ranging from iconic hard core punk band Black Flag, a hillbilly punk freak from Tennessee like Joe Buck, a golden-throated singer from Michigan like Rachel Brooke, a crazy hellbilly songwriter from the Pacific Northwest like Bob Wayne, a classic country singer/songwriter from times past like Red Simpson, and a blues legend from Missisippi like LC Ulmer. However, Muddy Roots seems to blend all of these artists together seamlessly.

I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised about this though. The folks that run Muddy Roots have been smashing alternate independent artists from all genres into 7-inch vinyl recordings for a while now, and some of their other regional festivals like Muddy Roots Juke Joint down in Clarksdale, MS and the Muddy Roots Spring Weekender up in Adams, TN. Hell, they even have a euro version of their little hootenanny that takes place in Belgium. So, needless to say these guys are seasoned vets at this point in bringing us the best of the independent and DIY from all slices of life.

And, since we know that you readers of our little rag tend to have eclectic music tastes as well, we have teamed up with the folks from Muddy Roots for something special for you guys. One lucky winner will receive a pair of tickets to attend the Muddy Roots Festival. It’s a ticket giveaway that will teach everyone of us a new genre, and is guaranteed to introduce you to a new favorite band. Contest entry details are available below, and we’ve also compiled a nearly 4 hour super sampler of almost every bands performing. Go ahead, and dial that puppy up for the next couple of weeks while you are figuring out your festival schedule.

If you aren’t the gambling type, or you’re ready to pull the trigger for tickets for a huge crew, then step right over here to grab some tickets in advance. Anything else that you could possibly want to know about the festival can be found at the Muddy Roots Festival website.

One lucky winner will score a pair of weekend passes to Muddy Roots. We will chose the winner on Wednesday (8/28) around noon! Good luck! Here’s how you can win:
