East Nashville Underground: Saturday Night Preview

ENU Summer 2013

It’s East Nashville Underground week, and the mayhem that is underground is rapidly approaching! We already ran down the 8 off 8th Preview Party over at The High Watt, the Friday night preview, and the Saturday Day Preview.  Today, we wrap things up with the finale session of East Nashville Underground.

ENU takes place this Friday and Saturday, August 16th and 17th, and tickets for single sessions or the entire weekend are available right here.  It’s already been documented that this weekend’s summer session will be the last ENU in its current form, so let’s send this thing off with a bang. The afternoon session gets started at 1pm on Saturday.

We have previews of all the bands performing on Saturday night after the jump.  Get in the mood for Underground.  See you this weekend.  Let’s get Shayna-faced at The East Room!

CASHATT

Could you think of a better way start off an East Nashville Underground than with the opener for Turquoise Jeep back in April?  That’s right “gangsta rapper” Cashatt kicks off Saturday night of East Nashville Underground.  It’s fitting for East Nashville Underground to keep with their tradition of bringing us hip-hop (did you see the incredible new single by ENU alum Chancellor Warhol that we posted yesterday), but it’s even more fitting that founder/emcee Jared Corder is going to have to follow a dude who has a song called “Turd Cutter Stutter” with his usual jovial announcements.

EL EL

We’ve been yapping about El El for quite a bit now.  Ben Elkins, the former Heypenny frontman, has been quickly gaining notoriety with his new project, and we were lucky enough to have them join us during our 2-year anniversary party.  We are also lucky enough to be premiering a new live video of “Kiss Kiss” that was recorded recently at Exit/In.

BAD COP

Bad Cop keeps appearing in my inbox.  The band, recently signed to Jeffrey Drag Records, just put out an EP titled The Light On EP last month, and have been on tour with Plastic Visions.  The tour partners are appropriate since Cage The Elephant and Plastic Visions guitarist, Brad Shultz produced the EP.  Have a listen below to see why this ENU is going to get LOUD.

CLEAR PLASTIC MASKS

Making a name in Nashville’s burgeoning rock scene isn’t that easy to do these day, but Clear Plastic Masks certainly haven’t shied away from the challenge.  We’ve seen them a venues big and small.  Make sure you pack your ear plugs, and be ready to possibly find your favorite new local band.

WILD CUB

As sad as it is that we got so little of Wild Cub before their apparent relocation to the west coast.  Of course, things really started to blossom after the SXSW send off show back in March, and we can only wish the best for the prolific songwriting frontman, Keegan DeWitt, and co.  Don’t miss out on this send off of sorts.  We saw Wild Cub for the first time at ENU, so it is fitting that we catch them there for one of their last as locals.

SLICK

Who the hell is Slick?  It’s the punkish glam rock project of BJ Barbee, Andy Putnam, Bret Mays, and Josh Williams.  Based on our first listen to the track below, they should bridge the gap perfectly between CPM and DJ Jazzy Jazz.

DJ JAZZY JAZZ

Leave it to the Captain of The High Watt and His Armed Forces to bring us home with a sure as hell good time.  It won’t matter how many of you stick around, he’ll play for the walls if he has too.  I’ve been to The High Watt on a dead Tuesday night before, but it’s all about the music for Brandon.  That’s what keeps the smile on his face.
