We’re starting the week off with even more awesome giveaways! This morning we brought you a chance to score tickets to Black Rebel Motorcycle’s upcoming stop at Cannery Ballroom, and now we’ve got yet another great show and giveaway for you!
Psychedelic indie pop artist Youth Lagoon is coming to Mercy Lounge this Thursday, May 2, and he’s bringing Majical Cloudz along with him. We’re super excited for this one, and even more excited to offer one lucky person a chance to score a pair of tickets! After the jump, find out more about the bands, and how you can win:
Youth Lagoon, the stage name for Trevor Powers, first erupted onto the scene in a big way with his 2011 debut, The Year of Hibernation. Youth Lagoon’s recent followup, Wondrous Bughouse, takes everything critics and fans loved about Hibernation and channels it into a more focused, experimental, and wholly satisfying record, which is one of the best of 2013 so far. Powers has a penchant for crafting trippy, poppy, ambient tunes with smart, self-reflective themes and a balanced array of genre-spanning influences. He’s amassed a lot of buzz, and rightfully so. Youth Lagoon is one of the strongest indie artists in the scene right now, and a real treat to witness live (as we can attest to from his last Nashville performance).

Majical Cloudz describe themselves as both music and performance. The Canadian duo is centered around the compositions of Devon Welsh, but also includes Matthew Otto in a live performance context. Their lo-fi, experimental sound has fleshed out over the last few releases, and has become more expansive, but they’re still characterized by their subdued, textural synth arrangements and sparse percussion. With a new album, Impersonator, due out next month, and a deeply emotional and engaging live show that ties their artistry together, this is a band you don’t want to miss.
