Nashville was spared from certain destruction by yesterday’s tornadoes, and we are rewarded with a plethora of shows tonight around town. But the question is, do you see Dr. Dog, Heartless Bastards, or Bass Drum of Death?
Bass Drum of Death is the two piece project of John Barrett and Colin Sneed from Oxford, MS. This Fat Possum Records band has been blowing up with their high powered garage rock since forming in 2008, and have certainly garnered a lot of attention in the indie music world. I’ve attached a YouTuber below with their track “Heart Attack Kid” below, and you can check them out tonight at The End with Cy Barkley & The Way Outsiders and Thelma & The Sleaze. Grab your $10 tickets here. Things get started at the usual 9pm.

Heartless Bastards are a four piece garage rock band out of Cincinnati, Ohio, and just released their fourth full length record Arrow. This new record has received some pretty awesome praise, and for good reason… because it is pretty awesome. Paste Magazine is still streaming that record, so check it out to see if this is what you had in mind for tonight. Tickets for this Mercy Lounge show are $15 at the door, and things get started around 9pm with The Fling and Devin Therriault.
Dr. Dog is almost like the old timers of tonights choices. Formed in 1999 in Pennsylvania, Dr. Dog is becoming a festival mainstay these days, and have released 6 full length records. The most recent release, Be The Void, has been in heavy rotation in this office, and is continuing the relevancy of their tuned up psychedelic feel good pop sound. I’ve attached my favorite track from Be The Void below, so check that out, and then figure out if you want to see them tonight at War Memorial with Nashville’s PUJOL. Tickets for this one are $22, and things get started around 8pm.

Regardless of which you choose for your night time entertainment, our old friends The Loose Hinges are performing at Ri’chards up in Whites Creek between 6:30pm and 7:30pm. We posted up a player with their debut record some time ago, so give that a listen again. It’s a pretty day for a drive, so why not head up there to grab a bite… I mean, you gotta eat, right?
Whatever you decide, celebrate NOT ending up like the photo The Black Belles tweeted last night, and get out to see some live music tonight.
