The Balkans, Exit/In, Tonight In Nashville

Happy hump day.  It’s time to talk about what you are going to do to celebrate this momentous occasion.  Oh yeah, it’s a big deal to make it half way through a week, and you deserve to celebrate.  How about getting out to see some great new music tonight in Nashville?

The Balkans are four Atlanta buddies who have created a playful Strokes-esque bridge of pop-hooked, punked-out garage rock.  Formed in 2008, they began getting their music out there with a few scattered 7″ releases, and quickly made a name for themselves in the Atlanta area.  In May 2011, they released their self-titled debut LP (via Double Phantom Records), and have received significant national acclaim.  Vice’s Noisey went out to see them at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA, NPR did an expose’ at Second Stage, and Spin Magazine named them one of the 5 best new artists for June 2011.

They are currently on a pretty hefty tour with the likes of Crystal Antlers and (ahem) PS, I Love You.  You can see them get warmed up tonight in Nashville at Exit/In with The Inscape at 8pm.  It’s a good thing this is an 18 and over show, or The (under 21) Balkans might not be able to get into the venue.

Side note: For those friends in San Francisco, The Balkans and PS, I Love You are playing at Hemlock on September 10th!

Here is a little computer friendly player to help you get to know The Balkans.
