Slightly-shoegazey, slightly-surfy, guitar-popster’s Real Estate are the next up in Nashville Scene’s Sounds Like Summer series this Thursday night (July 14th).
Real Estate is a collective of New Jersey musicians including guitarist/lead singer Martin Courtney (formerly of lo-fi rockers Titus Andronicus) and lead guitarist Matthew Mondanile (who’s side project is Ducktails), as well as, Alex Bleeker on bass and Etienne Duguay on drums. They previously released a self-titled LP and an EP, Reality. Both of these efforts brought a lot of attention for Real Estate. Pitchfork named Real Estate as the number 20 on their Top 50 albums of 2009 (and gave the album a score of 8.5), and included the song “Fake Blues” at number 63 on their Top 100 songs of 2009. Also in 2009, Stereogum slapped the “Band To Watch” label on Real Estate.
It looks like things aren’t slowing down for Real Estate. After touring and playing several big festivals (including Pitchfork in Chicago and Primavera Sound in Barcelona), they hit the studio to record the next LP, Days (releases on October 18th via Domino). The first single, “It’s Real”, from that LP has been released, and, just yesterday, that single was named “Best New Music” by Pitchfork. You can download “It’s Real” (for the cost of an email address) by clicking on the “mp3” button in the video at this link HERE.
Get your chance to hang out with them in Nashville (and get a listen to some of the new songs from their upcoming release) on Thursday night, July 14th at Nashville’s Hard Rock Cafe. You can get tickets in advance for $5 through Nashville Scene, or you can pay $10 at the door.
I attached the well-hyped “Fake Blues” below, and there is a SoundCloud link to “It’s Real”
