Social Distortion versus John Vanderslice

okay, okay…. i know.  apples and oranges here, but with both coming to Nashville on Thursday, a decision must be made.

Social Distortion has been around for over 30 years, and has played all over the world.  They are considered pioneers in the California punk rock scene, and have since become a rockabilly steadfast.  Not to mention this American music icon is playing at the Ryman starting at 8pm on Thursday!

John Vanderslice is the opposite end of the spectrum.  His self described “sloppy lo-fi” is really all about the songwriting of an indie music icon.  He runs Tiny Telephone studio out of San Francisco, and has been responsible for helping to produce records for The Mountain Goats and Spoon.  Numerous other bands have recorded at his studio, including Beulah, Okkerville River, and Death Cab for Cutie.  This ambassador to indie music is playing at The Basement starting at 9pm on Thursday!

Let me know if you are going to one of these.

I’ve attached a couple of songs from each.
