Though it seems like they’ve made it to Music City a lot lately, Philadelphia art rockers mewithoutYou haven’t played a traditional headliner in Nashville in a couple of years (their last one was a full album anniversary show). Returning to Mercy Lounge for a performance TONIGHT, July 8 with Foxing and Field Mouse, the beloved band are out in support of their killer new album, Pale Horses, and tickets are still available here while they last! Read on for details!
MEWITHOUTYOU
Hailing from Philadelphia and now celebrating 15 years of existence, art-rock/post-hardcore outfit mewithoutYou return to Nashville for the second time this year, following an incredible opening slot for Dr. Dog at The Ryman back in March. We caught the group at Mercy Lounge late last year as well, though for a special 10th anniversary tour for their classic sophomore LP, Catch For Us the Foxes. That’s really just a long way of explaining that tonight will be the band’s first regular (see: career-spanning) headlining Nashville show in a couple of years, and first Music City outing since the Run For Cover Records release of their wonderful new sixth album, Pale Horses. Juxtaposing smart, philosophical and high-concept lyricism with musical elements of indie rock, alternative, post-hardcore, and art rock, mewithoutYou have amassed a loyal following over the years, enhanced by their personal, electrifying live show. There’s a reason we never miss a chance to see them, and, if you haven’t yet, you should definitely go see what all of the hype is about.
FOXING
Rather than give you the rundown on indie, math-y, emo revivalists Foxing, who we’ve written about here and here, and whose music is really excellent (look up last year’s The Albatross), we have something more important to plug. As unfortunately has happened off too often lately, the band’s trailer was stolen last week, and, with it, all of their gear and many personal belongings. Their manager set up a GoFundMe to help, and, after receiving more than twice what they hoped for, the band asked that it be halted, overwhelmed with the positive response of their fans and not wanting to be greedy. Despite no longer asking for help, we encourage you to go see Foxing, cheer them on for their perseverance as they get back on their feet and push forward, and buy whatever merch they have available to show them support (if there’s not any merch at the show, snag a paid download or order some online).
FIELD MOUSE
Blurring the lines between indie rock, dream pop, and shoegaze, Philadelphia and Brooklyn based Field Mouse perfectly compliment this lineup, and are an absolutely can’t-miss opener. Their 2014 full-length, Hold Still Life, was one of the best, most underrated releases of last year, combining sharp lyricism with dense, hypnotic instrumentation. This band should absolutely be on your radar, if they aren’t already.
mewithoutYou, Foxing, and Field Mouse will perform tonight, July 8, at Mercy Lounge. The show is 18+, begins at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $20.
