Channeling an earnest, dark, indie pop sound and garnering fast-growing buzz (and millions of streams) online, teen artist Charlotte Lawrence has only been making music in the public eye for a couple of years now, but, already, feels like an essential current artist to watch. Since the release of her debut EP, Young, last year, as well as world tours, high-profile collaborations, and more, her fanbase has been growing at a rapid speed, so it’s no surprise to see that Lawrence will return to town one year after selling out The High Watt for a considerably larger headliner at The Cowan tonight, Nov. 8, with buzzy genre-bending artist Goody Grace! Certainly one of the coolest shows of the fall, you can still snag tickets right here while they last, then read on for more about the show!

CHARLOTTE LAWRENCE

The daughter of actress Christa Miller and television producer Bill Lawrence, buzzy indie pop up and comer Charlotte Lawrence honed a passion for music at a young age, learning to play piano, writing lyrics and poetry, and eventually transitioning into songwriting as a preteen, citing artists like Bon Iver, Stevie Nicks, Damien Rice, and Joni Mitchell as early inspirations. However, it was modeling that would first bring her success as a teen, landing an early gig with Chanel and eventually winding up in the pages of publications like Teen Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. The now 19-year-old got her first taste of big-time musical performing when she was invited by singer Natalie Maines to perform with The Dixie Chicks at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016, and by the following year, Lawrence was earning online buzz and critical acclaim for her solo musical talents, thanks to early tunes like “Sleep Talking” and a cover of Grease classic “You’re the One That I Went,” which attracted viral attention. 2018 proved to be a pivotal year for the breakout teen, who’s substantive and personal dark, electro-laced, indie pop sound channels fellow young peers like Lorde and Billie Eilish, adopting a throughly modern and incredibly cool aesthetic that still retains her own unique identity. In addition to appearing on tracks with Kaskade (who also invited her out for a massive performance at Miami’s Ultra Festival) and Youngblud, as well as touring Europe with Lauv and beginning to tour stateside as well, last year saw the release of Charlotte’s buzzy debut EP, Young, met with enthusiastic praise, and launching her on a trajectory towards becoming one of pop’s next big breakouts. With a debut LP on the way, and after swiftly selling out The High Watt last fall, it’s no surprise to see Charlotte heading up The Cowan this time around, and we have no doubt she’ll be in even bigger spaces soon; catch her on the rise!

GOODY GRACE

Hailing from the tiny suburban Canadian town of Selkirk, near Winnipeg, breakout young artist Goody Grace has come a very long way since first relocating to Los Angeles in 2014 at only 17. Harboring a lifelong passion for music, the now 22-year-old combined a love of hip hop, punk, folk, and pop, both classic and contemporary, in honing his sound, and first attracted a following as a teen by covering songs from artists like Taylor Swift and The Weeknd. Now something of the next emo-forged, internet raised genre-bender to gain traction, the singer rose to broader attention co-writing and collaborating with artists like Hoodie Allen and gnash, soon managing to amass millions of streams, attract further collaborations with the likes of lil aaron, G-Eazy, and The Neighbourhood, tour the nation and appear at major festivals, and finally, land a major label deal with Atlantic ahead of last year’s breakthrough record Infinite. In a sign of just how fast his star is rising, Goody most recently teamed up with Blink-182 (who he’d previously performed with live) for his latest single, “Scumbag,” the first taste of a forthcoming record likely to help make the up and comer even more of a household name. Don’t miss his opening set, as we have no doubt he’ll be headlining rooms this size in no time!

Charlotte Lawrence and Goody Grace will perform tonight  Nov. 8 at The Cowan at Topgolf. The show is all ages, doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are available to purchase for $18.
