It’s been an interesting several years for Canadian indie pop breakout Carly Rae Jepsen, whose 2012 major label debut, Kiss, and its ubiquitous lead single, “Call Me Maybe,” made her an international pop sensation and radio staple. With 2015 followup, Emotion, however, Jepsen really flexed her artistry and settled into a more substantive, adventurous sound, gaining an older (read: not exclusively teen pop), cult audience and earning widespread critical accolades, finding a sound, style, and perception that lands her somewhere in the overlap of huge, radio-primed dance pop, classic ’80s and ’90s pop icon sensibility, and trendy, synth-drenched modern art pop, accessible enough for casual radio listeners, dance-primed and flamboyant enough to attract a cult queer following, and cool enough to draw praise from outlets, artists, and events that don’t normally gravitate towards mainstream pop singers.
The result has seen Jepsen’s run enter a bit of an initial transition phase, soon earning her a renewed wave of attention and acclaim as Emotion has found its audience, so it’s no surprise that for her latest tour, Carly Rae upgrades from her prior Nashville headlining debut of three years ago at Cannery Ballroom, to the legendary and perfectly-suited halls of The Ryman Auditorium, when she returns to town on July 7! Tickets to the singer’s much-anticipated Music City stop will officially go on sale Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. CDT right here, but there are a variety of pre-sales as well, and you can try your luck with codes ‘SHRAMPTON’ and ‘DEDICATED’ right now!
Jepsen’s tour announcement comes just weeks after the release of pair of stellar new singles, “Now That I Found You” and “No Drug Like Me,” which are set to appear on her also-just-announced forthcoming LP, Dedicated, due out May 17. If the initial tunes are any indication, the synthy, catchy, artsy, and earnest pop of Emotion will continue with Carly Rae’s latest, and you can check out her recent video release along with a full list of tour dates below. Finally, pre-order the album here, and earn another chance at a pre-sale code for the tour!
