On the way back home from a trek to SXSW, and just weeks before their highly-anticipated sophomore LP arrives, DC eclectic and sharp post-punk outfit Priests are set to stop through Nashville for the first time in a few years, to headline Exit/In on March 17 with newcomers Too Free. Responsible for one of our favorite albums of 2017, and likely to be a short-list contender for best of the year once again, tickets to what’s sure to be a stellar, genre-bending, and thought-provoking show are still available right here! We’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan as well, so if you’d rather try your luck, read on for more about the show and enter for a chance to win below!
PRIESTS
Since first forming in Washington, DC in 2011, and releasing their debut 7” the following year, eclectic outfit Priests have become one of the most interesting, critically beloved, sharpest, and fiercely independent acts of the underground rock scene. Though not conventionally punk in sound per se, but with a shared prior musical history in the punk realm, across a couple of tapes, an EP, and their breakthrough 2017 debut LP, Nothing Feels Natural, the trio (formerly a four-piece) have honed a sound that fuses post-punk and poppy indie rock with elements of r&b, industrial, noise rock, and more. With a sophomore full-length, The Seduction of Kansas, on the way, which, like all of their music, will arrive through the band’s own Sister Polygon label (through which they’ve also released music for acts like Downtown Boys, Snail Mail, Sneaks, and Gauche), Priests’ thoughtful, meditative, culturally and politically charged thematic focus and subversive, expansive sound promises to reach even more ambitious heights, aided in part by producer John Congleton and multi-instrumentalist and collaborator Janel Leppin. One of the coolest, smartest, and most essential bands to emerge from the underground scene in recent memory, with one near-perfect LP to their name and what’s likely to be an album of the year contender on the way to follow it, there’s never been a better time to see this phenomenal band in action.
TOO FREE
We can’t find much info on openers Too Free, except that they just very recently released their first ever single, “ATM,” though Priests’ own label Sister Polygon. Judging by the tune alone though, which is a hypnotic, layered, and soulful electronic jam, you should make a point to show up early and see what they’re all about!
