With buzzed about festival appearances, endless press accolades, and an impressively strong debut album to their name, LA indie/pop folk breakouts Magic Giant are a band you need to know, especially if you dig singalong-worthy, upbeat, and nuanced songwriting. Set to return to Music City Jan. 28 for a performance at Exit/In, Magic Giant’s latest tour is made even more exciting with the inclusion of the more indie rock leaning Australia to Nashville transplants Castlecomer, celebrating their phenomenal recent debut, and buzzy LA alt rock breakouts Weathers. It’s a super cool lineup top to bottom, and tickets are still available here while they last! Or, if you’d rather leave it to chance, we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! MAGIC GIANT
Essentially primed to be a perfect festival band and an accessible and uplifting act for fans and newcomers alike, LA’s Magic Giant are made up of three eclectic and accomplished multi-instrumentalists, whose sensibilities meld to produce a bold, infectiously catchy, bombastic, and slick brand of poppy indie folk, drawing comparisons to acts like Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers, and Walk the Moon. Formed in 2014, the band released an eponymous debut EP the following year, swiftly earning press and landing them on the bill of festivals like Electric Forest, Wanderlust, and Lightning in a Bottle. With 2017’s debut full-length, In the Wind, and breakout singles like “Window” and, particularly, “Set on Fire,” the group have found their stock rapidly rise, appearing on the road with the likes of Mike Posner, The Revivalists, and Atlas Genius, and debuting at events like Firefly, WayHome, and Coachella, met with positive praise from the likes of NPR, Rolling Stone, and Billboard. Catchy, joyous, and seasoned in concert, Magic Giant haven’t made it to Nashville often in their swift but exciting run, despite having ties to Music City, which is all the more reason to make their upcoming outing a top priority!
CASTLECOMER
Though they formed in 2013 and spent years operating out of their native Sydney, Australia, indie pop breakouts Castlecomer have called Music City home since early last year (which might explain why you’ve suddenly seen them pop up on local shows at a much more frequent clip). Named for the small Irish village from which most of the group’s family emigrated (4/5 of the band are cousins, and the remaining member a family friend), Castlecomer cultivated a respectable following down under, also drawing attention throughout the blogosphere and making a ripple stateside with a buzzed about 2017 debut at SXSW, as well a string of well received singles and EPs over the past several years. They only released their self-titled debut album last fall, but already the guitar driven indie and alt rock/pop outfit seem poised to become a breakout band, channeling similarly slick indie acts like M83 and Two Door Cinema Club. They’re much more conventionally rock than Magic Giant, but still incredibly catchy, and we fans of either act will undoubtedly dig the other.
WEATHERS
Like Magic Giant, Weathers hail from Los Angeles, and, despite having only formed in 2015, managed to swiftly land a deal with RCA and amass an impressive early cult following. The young alt/indie rockers turned heads with debut single “Happy Pills,” which packs big pop hooks with glitzy, angsty rock bite, and followup “I Don’t Wanna Know,” largely cruising on the strength of those tunes and their impressive live show until dropping their debut full-length, Kids in the Night, last summer. Much like Castlecomer, they take a more rock leaning bent than Magic Giant (you’d be hard-pressed to label any of their songs as folk influenced), but should still mesh well with this lineup, and with a strong debut and a lot of well-deserved hype, they’re a band you seriously want to show up early for!
