Self-described as “a traveling photo show meant to cultivate solidarity,” To The Front began with Los Angeles based photographers Erica Lauren Perez and Courtney Coles, seeking an outlet to showcase the works of women and non-binary music photographers, who make up an integral and growing part of the scene, but who regularly face far less representation, especially at the gallery level.

After successfully mounting a Los Angeles show at the start of last year, then expanding to New York last summer, To The Front (the name, of course, a Bikini Kill reference), has become an expanding, traveling exhibition and collective, with stops in Toronto and Boston in recent months, and a showcase tonight, June 1 at East Nashville’s Main Street Gallery.

Featuring work from an eclectic and incredibly talented group of photographers, including a handful of locals, proceeds from sales of prints and snacks will go to benefit their local charities of choice, the event largely organized and run in a DIY capacity. In addition to photography, local indie/lo-fi rockers Fever Blush are set to close out the evening with a special performance, famed internet dog Punk Rock Milo will be in attendance (his owner is exhibiting photographer Elena de Soto), and locals Sam DeSantis and Charlavail will provide a photobooth.

Obviously, we encourage you to support and celebrate music photography in any capacity, and a chance to see so many talented photographers together, especially ones too often less represented, is a special and necessary way to help foster attention, create a dialogue, and become more aware and supportive of art at a broader level. The show runs from 6-10 p.m., and you can check out a full list of photographers taking part below!
