Thursday marks the unofficial start to the weekend, so why not kick things off with a night of great music? Tonight, Nov. 16 at The Basement, the popular Communion series returns for another stacked showcase of local and national talent.

This time around, they’ll welcome local rock and rollers Ornament, who just earned the Best Rock Single award for “It Must Be the Season” from the Nashville Scene last month. Garage punk greats Faux Ferocious will share cuts from their recent self-titled EP, Colorado singer-songwriter Blake Brown & the American Dust Choir will bring some fiery alt-Americana, and Emily Nenni will start it all off with some badass honky tonk anthems.

Tickets are still available here, so grab yours and keep reading for more about tonight’s great performers.

ORNAMENT

One of the most buzzed-about bands in Nashville’s new generation of rock bands, Ornament bring a sound that’s heavily influenced by the fuzzy psych rock boom of the ’60s and ’70s. Their single “It Must Be the Season,” backed with “Family Happiness” won Single of the Year from the Nashville Scene this year, which is an impressive feat for any burgeoning band. With the pop and Americana scenes flourishing, Ornament may be the trio to bring rock and roll back to the forefront. Don’t miss out on the chance to see one of Nashville’s most promising acts in one of its most intimate venues.

FAUX FEROCIOUS

We’ve been digging the sound of garage rockers Faux Ferocious for nearly three years now, since they dropped their impressive debut LP on local label Infinity Cat. In July, they returned with a stellar self-titled EP that deep dives into the psychedelic post-punk soundscape. Get ready to be blown away by their killer bass lines and badass, edgy vocals.

BLAKE BROWN & THE AMERICAN DUST CHOIR

Denver, Colorado singer-songwriter Blake Brown and his band The American Dust Choir bring stomping rhythms and stunning harmonies that are rooted in Americana. Heartfelt lyrics and rolling electric guitar give the perfect setting to Brown’s dreamy story songs. If you like Gold-era Ryan Adams and soaring string sections, get there early to hear his already impressive songbook.

EMILY NENNI

If you love old school honky tonk music with a modern twist, Emily Nenni will probably be your new favorite artist. A regular player at Honky Tonk Tuesday Nights, Nenni brings smoky vocals that seem at times like an intriguing blend of Amy Winehouse and Patsy Cline. If you’re looking for the type of country music that’s more focused on heartbreak and storytelling than pickups and cutoff jeans, do yourself a favor and dive into Nenni’s wonderfully retro sound.

Ornament, Faux Ferocious, Blake Brown & the American Dust Choir, and Emily Nenni will perform tonight, Nov. 16 at The Basement. The show is 21+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $8.
