It’s been almost exactly two years since the release of The Strokes‘ last album, Angles (which came after a five-year hiatus following previous release First Impressions of Earth). When the band was making press rounds at that time, they frequently expressed a desire to continue on with the momentum set by Angles, and planned to quickly record a followup. The Strokes have never been the most punctual at delivering on recording deadlines, however, and though word of them hitting the studio circulated throughout 2012, no concrete information about the record ever materialized. Finally, a week or so ago, claims of a new Strokes song started popping up, and several days ago the band quietly dropped a track called “One Way Trigger,” which you can check out below:

Jumping on the surprise high-profile release bandwagon, the group announced today that their new album Comedown Machine will drop on March 26th. In addition to the announcement, the band also made “One Way Trigger” available for free download on their website, and clarified that the song is merely a preview track. The proper first single is called “All the Time” and is set to debut soon. If “One Way Trigger” is any indication though, Comedown Machine could be the best Strokes album we’ve gotten in years. The band also released the album’s minimalist artwork, as well as a matching lyric poster for “One Way Trigger,” both of which you can see below (click to enlarge):
I know I sound like a broken record, but a spring release from a band like The Strokes begs the question of tour plans. And tour plans beg the question of festivals. We know that the band isn’t playing Coachella, but what about Bonnaroo? The Strokes are no stranger to the festival, and would be a perfect second-tier headliner grab to beef up Bonnaroo’s trendy/contemporary rock pedigree- especially in a year when many of the biggest rumored headliners lean towards legacy act territory. As of right now, no dates are set for the band. What do you think, would Bonnaroo be the perfect place for the indie rockers to kick off another comeback?
