Promising New York soul-pop up and comers Lawrence and Los Angeles blues rock staple Andy Frasco, both of whom dropped great albums last year, are hitting The High Watt together on Tuesday, Feb. 21, for what’s sure to be a fun, funky, soulful night of timeless rock. While the former group are fast rising in the scene, and the latter is a seasoned vet, they both bring unique sound and perspective with their retro-leaning tunes, and they make a for a great and complimentary bi-coastal bill. Tickets are still available right here, and we’ve got a full preview below for what you don’t want to miss this one, but if your wallet’s a little light, you’re in luck; we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more and enter below!
LAWRENCE
Hailing from New York City, rising young soul pop outfit Lawrence are helmed by siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, who’ve been performing together since they were young children (seriously, Clyde was already contributing music to films at the ripe old age of 6). Cutting their teeth playing around Lower Manhattan, and raised on a diet of classics like Stevie Wonder and Janis Joplin, the duo branched out to form a full band while Clyde was attending Brown University, and met the talented crew of players who would make Lawrence a full-on eight piece band, complete with keys and horns. Tapping Grammy winning producer Eric Krasno, the group released their debut full-length, Breakfast, early last year, featuring contributions from members of Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, and Tedeschi Trucks Band, and were met with strong critical praise. Already, the rising rockers have toured with the likes of Blues Traveler and debuted at Bonnaroo, and their nostalgic, unabashedly poppy, and soulful sound seems primed to carry them a long way; come see what they’re all about.
ANDY FRASCO
Backed by a somewhat rotating band of players he dubs “The U.N.,” eclectic Los Angeles singer-songwriter Andrew Frasco has been a fixture in the blues rock scene now for a decade. Blending an energetic, soulful, and retro base of rock influence with more contemporary blues rock, with dashes of jazz and funk, Frasco has crafted five fantastic albums, most recently last year’s Happy Bastards, and has earned a reputation for being an engaging, interactive, and unpredictable live force. Road dogs and veterans of the national festival scene, Andy Frasco & The U.N. possess the seasoned polish to command any room, and they’re sure to serve as a perfect compliment to Lawrence’s more pop rock leanings. Be sure to show up early to see them!
