Elton John announces return to Nashville in April

After I had just gushed about my hope for William Shatner to do his infamous cover version of Elton John‘s classic, “Rocket Man” during his appearance at TPAC this weekend (in a post written last night but slated for later, don’t worry, you’ll see it soon-ish) – now the man himself has announced a tour stop here at the Bridgestone Arena on April 5.

Last time Music City audiences had a chance to take in the man’s duck-suit-and-sequined splendor was his co-headlining stint with Billy Joel on the Face 2 Face Tour back in ’09. A Nashville stop makes perfect sense right now as his next record is slated to be produced by local juggernaut (and ABC’s Nashville music-supervisor, T. Bone Burnett) and to be released later in 2013.

This announcement did have me returning to speculation on a Bonnaroo appearance… and while it IS theoretically possible, it remains unlikely due to a June 15 date in Switzerland that kicks off a European tour. Is it too close to make ‘roo, too? Will we ever stop Bonnaroo speculating? I’d say once we’re down at the farm this year our theory production would calm down, but probably not even then — we gotta’ keep guessing about those guest appearances and start predicting early for 2014!

To ensure you catch Elton — tix are $29, $79, and $139 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Sat., January 19 at the old Ticketmaster.com.

And now, pretty much the greatest song ever about lovin’ a music man.
