Out in support of their first album in six years, and best to date, IV, Canadian psych rockers Black Mountain return to Nashville for the first time since 2010 later this month, June 18 at Mercy Lounge with electronic artist Majeure. Tickets are still available right here, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more about the show and enter below!
BLACK MOUNTAIN
Formally formed just over a decade ago in Vancouver, psych rockers Black Mountain‘s origins actually trace back much earlier than that. After cutting his teeth in the Canadian punk scene in the ’80s, then moving between a handful of projects in the ’90s, frontman Stephen McBean formed a folk and indie rooted project called Jerk with a Bomb with drummer Joshua Wells in ’99. Over the next several years, the group would continue to add members and drift in a weirder, heavier direction, eventually pivoting to become Black Mountain, named after a Jerk with a Bomb song of the same title, in 2004. In 2005, the band dropped their eponymous debut, finding quick and unexpected buzz, and even landing a tour with Coldplay, launching them on a journey over the last decade that has earned critical buzz, high-profile song placements, a rabid fanbase, and awards nominations. After their third album, 2010’s Wilderness Heart, Black Mountain slowed a bit, now geographically spread out and involved in other projects, but the rockers regrouped last year to craft their best LP to date, IV, which arrived earlier this year, and features more ambitious production and broader experimentation than anything else they’ve done to date. Pulling from elements of psychedelic rock, heavy metal, classic rock, and even a bit of punk, Black Mountain are one of the coolest, most unadulterated rock bands making music today, and since their stops in Nashville are infrequent, you really want to catch them while you can!
MAJEURE
Hailing from Pittsburgh, ambient, spaced out, electronic musician Majeure is the live alias of A.E. Patella. After playing in bands as a drummer for several years, most prominently Zombi, Patella branched out with his solo work in 2009, finding love from the blogosphere, and prolifically releasing a number of albums and EPs since. Though Majeure certainly shares Black Mountain’s penchant for experimenting and blending genres, as well as their psychedelic flair, he’s more squarely rooted in the electronic realm, and his hypnotic tunes should provide a interesting contrast to warm up the show.
