Parquet Courts-2016-620

As we told you when it announced, Parquet Courts are making a stop at Nashville’s Mercy Lounge tonight in support of their brilliant 5th album, Human Performance, which dropped on Rough Trade back in April.  They will be joined by fellow Brooklyn rockers B Boys, who are also celebrating a new record.  Tickets are still available for $16, and the 18+ show gets started around 9 p.m.  Head below for more about the lineup tonight to find out why this is a show totally worthy of going out on a Monday night.

PARQUET COURTS

Blending punk rock attitude and jangly garage rock influences like Talking Heads, Pavement, and The Velvet Underground, Brooklyn’s Parquet Courts first started gaining traction with their 2012 release Light Up Gold, which was lauded by both underground and mainstream press. Tracks like “Stoned and Starving” and “Borrowed Time” exemplify their art punk DIY approach, yet were catchy enough to elevate them from house party status to legitimate headliners.  PC returned to the studio, and, in 2014, released two albums of new material, Sunbathing Animal and Content Nausea, the latter being released under the homophone Parkay Quarts.  Their latest release, Human Performance, sees the band continue to sonically explore the roots of garage punk with tracks ranging from the catchy “Berlin Got Blurry” to the anxiously droning “Dust.”  We first saw Parquet Courts at the now defunct Owl Farm back in 2013, and totally loved their set at Third Man Records Blue Room in 2014. They returned in 2015 for a proper headlining set at Exit/In to play for a packed house. Bottom line, if you haven’t seen these guys yet, you are seriously missing out, so fix that tonight.

B BOYS

Like Parquet Courts, B Boys are based in Brooklyn, and play a similar vein of rock.  With driving basslines and screeching, jangly guitars, their brand of garage rock leans closer to The Stooges in the punk spectrum.  B Boys released their unforgiving 8 track, 21 minute debut, No Worry No Mind, back in March, and based on our first listen, their live show should be equally as exciting.  Head below to hear their first single “Seagulls” to get a taste of what they are all about.

Parquet Courts and B Boys will perform May 16 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $16.
