Papadosio-620

As we’ve been doing for the past several years now, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2016 lineup.  We’ll start from the bottom and work our way up, paying special attention to the smaller and lesser known acts on this year’s bill. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Band of the Day…

LEARN

In its earliest days, Bonnaroo was largely a jam band festival. Popular names in the scene such as Phil Lesh, Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, and Widespread Panic were regulars at the farm, and, though they still come back, their presence is more in moderation with a wider net of acts, from indie to hip hop to metal and beyond. Even before its corporate acquisition, Bonnaroo made a point to diversify its offerings, and saw a spike in attendance as a result. Jam bands will always be a part of Bonnaroo’s DNA though, and one such act that fits the old school ‘Roo vibe this year are Papadosio.

While the group originally hail from Athens, Ohio, they now call Asheville, NC home, but rarely find themselves idle in the southern hotbed of roots music. The band are constantly on the road, building on improving their already strong live performance and ever-evolving sonic direction, and organically earning a fervent fanbase in the process. When it comes to their sound, Papadosio present a very appealing blend of electronica, funk, and progressive rock, which takes an experimental bent live, but definitely culminates in fully realized song ideas in recording. The bass is constantly positioned as the center point of the music, which makes them appealing to both fans of electronica and more conventional jam bands. The group recently began to release a series of live albums entitled #extrasinamovie, which chronicle some of their best performances of this year, and self-released their fourth full-length, Extras in a Movie, last fall. If you’re itching for an authentic, immersive, and jam-focused live experience, look no further.
