Annual Nashville battle of the bands series the Road to Bonnaroo is coming to a close, but new competition “The Road To Roo” competition carries the torch. Unlike years past, when the winner of three individual contests would land spots at the nearby mega-fest, this year it appears that only one winner will be selected to represent the state of Tennessee. Here’s the blurb from sponsor BMI and host Lightning 100 about the event:
Applications to participate in The Road to Roo presented by BMI hosted by Lightning 100 are being accepted on lightning100.com now through Feb. 12. Bands within a 30 mile radius of Nashville can submit one song each to enter. Sixteen bands will then be chosen to compete in The Road to Roo’s bracket-style competition, playing multiple venues around Nashville. There will be a total of five Nashville “battles” with the winner from each progressing to the next round. The Road to Roo will commence with state finals taking place the week of April 4. The winner of the state finals will win a coveted slot on the 2016 Bonnaroo Music and Arts lineup. For complete rules and to enter into The Road to Roo presented by BMI, visit lightning100.com.
Obviously, we are lacking details regarding the number of bands in each battle, how the winner is chosen, and the venues that will be participating, to name just a few. If you dig a little deeper into Lightning 100’s page, you’ll see that bands “must be available to play on Feb. 29, March 7, March 14, and continues the week of March 21.” We also know from above that the finals will take place the week of April 4. Of course, more details will be released soon, but, in the meantime, if you are an artist, or know an artist that would kill it at Bonnaroo, you should probably drop a name in the hat.
