Are you looking for a way to kick the hump day blues without spending a ton of money, or staying out super late? Friends, we have the show for you! Tonight, Jan. 27 BMI and rock radio ALT 98.3 are hosting a showcase at The Basement East featuring indie rockers Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes and electro-rock leaning three-piece Polyenso. You get to see both bands for the low, low price of $Free.99, and this one gets going early, beginning at 6:30 p.m., so head to The BEast for your post-work happy hour and some kickass tunage. Read on after the jump for more info on the bands, and we hope to see you on the east side tonight.

DANIEL ELLSWORTH & THE GREAT LAKES

Here at No Country we are big fans of local indie pop rockers Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes (we told you all about their last performance in this post). Formed in 2010, the collective have been building momentum and recognition since they released their debut record, Civilized Man, in 2011. Their latest release, Kid Tiger, was helmed by producer Vance Powell (Jack White, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs) and it is pure fire. Since it dropped in 2014, the group were named one of the “15 Bands to Watch” by Esquire Magazine, they’ve played SXSW, and they were on a heady bill at Live On The Green, among other accomplishments. After twelve plus months of touring in support of that record, we are happy to report that the fellas have recently released a new single, “Always/Never,” and you can check out the slightly trippy video below. After you do that, get your ass in gear for their gig tonight to see what other new material they’ve been working on, but don’t forget it starts a little earlier than usual.

POLYENSO

Hailing from St. Petersburg, FL, Polyenso are in town to share with you their multi-layered sound that incorporates elements of indie-rock, experimental electronics, neo-soul, and even hip-hop. Claiming a diverse list of influences like Flying Lotus, The Roots, Bright Eyes, and Bjork, the band have dubbed their sound (in a cheeky manner) “urban indie progressive,” on their Facebook page. They’re touring in support of a new record, Pure In The Plastic, slated for release in April, and we look forward to hearing their eclectic stew of sounds live.

Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes and Polyenso will perform tonight, Jan. 27 at The Basement East. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.), and admission is FREE.
