Are any of you not seeing Star Wars tonight? Looking for some live music instead? How about a cool indie/alt/punk show with a mix of touring acts and locals, catered to an all ages crowd and designed to benefit a good cause? Buzzworthy rockers Speedy Ortiz return to Nashville tonight, Dec. 17 with Brooklyn’s Aye Nako, and have tapped locals Idle Bloom and Davega Bike to support! A few tickets remain here, so grab yours now and read on for details about perhaps the best indie show of the week!

SPEEDY ORTIZ

Massachusetts indie/punk rockers Speedy Ortiz released one of the years’s best albums with their third effort Foil Deer, and also recently premiered one of the best videos as well, an ode to David Lynch for standout single “My Dead Girl” (watch below). Renowned recently for their admirable and outspoken efforts to help create a safer, more communal indie scene, the group are currently on an all ages tour, with proceeds set to benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation. Formed in 2011, originally as a solo endeavor by frontwoman  Sadie Dupuis, which quickly morphed into a proper band, Speedy Ortiz made a splash with their amazing 2013 label debut Major Arcana, and have benefited from constant buzz since. We love not only their music, but their smart, socially conscious attitude, and always jump at the chance to see their wonderful live show.

AYE NAKO

Not a far shot from Speedy Ortiz in sound and presentation, Brooklyn’s Aye Nako describe their style as “sad punk songs about being queer, trans and black,” which pretty much sums it up. Personal and earnest, the band’s criminally overlooked new EP, The Blackest Eye, provides an honest and turblanent glimpse into the psyche of frontman Mars Dixon, both in personal struggle and as a reaction to the state of society. Needless to say, we’re beyond eager to see these songs translated live.

IDLE BLOOM

Idle Bloom have been one of our favorite local acts since day one, when they emerged from the ashes of Fancytramp, and we cannot think of a single Nashville band better suited to play this show. Influenced by many of the same punk, alternative, and indie sensibilities as Speedy Ortiz, the group, who just dropped their debut EP Some Paranoia, are a ton of to catch in person, so be sure to show up early and see what the buzz is about.

DAVEGA BIKE

Hailing from Murfreesboro, experimental rockers Davega Bike find a nice balance between the eclectic sensibilities of the evening’s performers. Don’t miss ’em!

Speedy Ortiz, Aye Nako, Idle Bloom, and Davega Bike will perform tonight, Dec. 17 at The End. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $12.
