This Weekend In Nashville | Consumer Weekend Edition

It’s Black Friday which means that we are exhausted after waiting in line elbowing old ladies outside of Wal Mart last night to get a sweet deal on some electronics.  We still can’t believe we were all able to pool our money to get that USB Thumb Drive for only $5.  It was totally worth staying up all night.  In the true spirit of the holidays, try to shop and buy local.  Support Nashville.  Once you are done thinking of others, it’ll be time to give something back to yourself with some weekend music.  The pickings are fairly slim, but here’s the No Country run down of noteworthy shows this weekend in Nashville.  Get out and see some live music.

Friday

On Friday, we recommend you skip the chaos and insanity of commercial Black Friday shopping and head to East Nashville to shop local instead. 5 Points Friday, an alternative to the Black Friday of Big Retail, is taking place in and around 5 Points from 10AM-10PM and will feature discounts from participating stores, live music, and local beers.  It’s actually going on right now, so get down there!

Friday OR Saturday

Jessika loves that there are two chances to catch Will Hoge this weekend. She’ll be bringing you more on the man later today, but here are the quick facts. Will Hoge will be playing a two night stand over at Third & Lindsley (first night as a benefit for Vanderbilt University Medical Center). You can read her full write up in a bit, but, if you know that this is for you, you can snag those tickets right here. You can check out his 615 Day performance for Lightning 100 below.

Saturday

Andrew has a post coming in tomorrow with a full write up on this one, but you should go ahead and prepare yourself for David Bazan on Saturday at Exit/In.  Bazan found fame in the mid 90’s with Pedro the Lion which was a hugely influential band, and getting the chance to see Bazan play PtL’s classic album Control in its entirety, in the wake of its 10th anniversary, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Bazan has a fantastic and prolific solo career of his own as well, and will almost definitely play some of his own great solo material in a second set.  You can have a listen to Control below to prep yourself.

Sunday

Philip’s top pick for the weekend is Wiz Khalifa (joined by the rest of Taylor Gang: Juicy J, Chevy Woods, Lola Monroe, Berner, and Tuki Carter) at Bridgestone Arena. Though best known for his gigantic single “Black and Yellow,” Khalifa is a more skilled and versatile than the poppy, Steelers-repping radio hit might indicate. His frequent collaborations with Snoop Dogg are a testament to his cred, his solid upcoming new album O.N.I.F.C. shows off his range, and his performance style is simultaneously laid back and hugely electric.
